Kandiyohi SWCD Project Cost Share

The State Cost Share Program was created to provide funds to Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) to share the costs with the landowners for the implementation of high priority erosion, sedimentation, or water quality issues due to altered hydrology. Through the State Cost Share Program, landowners can request financial and technical assistance from thier local SWCD for the implementation of BWSR-approved conservation practices. This program provides the following cost-share below.
Types of eligible Best Management Practices: 

Well Decommissioning

  • Kandiyohi SWCD will cost share on non-priority areas up to 75% with $1,000 maximum per well decommissioned. Priority Areas will have cost share up to 100% with $2,500 maximum per well decommissioned.

Feedlots

  • Kandiyohi SWCD will work with the Kandiyohi NRCS to combine cost share up to a maximum of 75% on feedlot runoff structures or other eligible upgrades to feedlot operations.

Structural Practices

  • Kandiyohi SWCD will work with the Kandiyohi County NRCS to combine cost share up to a maximum of 75% on eligible structural practices such as waterways, water & sediment blocks, alternative tile intakes, and side inlets.

Field Windbreaks

  • Kandiyohi SWCD will cost share up to a maximum of 75% of the price of the trees, site preparation and other related products (i,e, mulch, fabric, tree tubes, etc.) in field windbreaks.

Rain Garden 

  • Kandiyohi SWCD will cost share 75% of total eligible project costs with a maximum of $3,000 on rain garden projects. Projects must comply with the rules and guidance of the GAM.

Buffer 

  • Buffer Cost share will be awarded on a first come first serve basis, for projects which landowners install in order to become complaint with the Minnesota Buffer Law. Cost share payments will be $300 per acre for native grass plantings and $150 per acre for cool season grasses.

Cover Crops

  • Cost share up to 75% with maximum of $2,000. Cost share must be signed before seeding. One species: $35/acre Multi Species: $40/acre, seed mixes must be preapproved
  • Max of $1,000 per landowner per year

Forage & Biomass Planting

  • $40/acre flat rate for all combined components (site prep, seed, seeding, ect.)
  • Maximum $3,000 per landowner per year

Conservation Cover

  • $500/acre (flat rate) assistance payment for ALL combined establishment components (Site Prep, Seed, Seeding, Maintenance, Ect.)
  • Maximum $3,000 per landowner per project)

Shoreline Restoration

  • Maximum cost share not to exceed 75% or $5,000 of total eligible project costs, whichever is less.
  • The conservation shoreline restoration plan will require at least 75% of the shoreline length of the property boundary, where feasible.
  • The District will not fund any rock rip rap unless an engineer has issued a notice that rock is the only solution. The District may fund rock rip rap of up to $500 only if the engineer has issued a noticed that the rock is the only solution.

Grant funds are generally available to SWCDs at the beginning of the state’s fiscal year. In order for SWCDs to receive funds, they must have on file an approved annual plan of work, annual report (including financial statements), and comprehensive plan or resolution to adopt the county’s comprehensive plan.
