The 2022 Outstanding Conservationist for Kandiyohi SWCD is Lonnie and Penny Fosso, and Ryan and Sarah Fosso who own and operate Church Lake Farm, of Pennock.  Church Lake Farm primarily grows corn for silage and alfalfa with some small grains and occasionally some soybeans.  Water and sediment basins manage runoff and control erosion on their land.  Alfalfa, cover crops and CRP is used to help protect their soils year-round.  Wildlife and pollinators benefit from native buffers installed to help filter and keep water clean.  Solar panels, Irrigation water management, wetland restorations, and nutrient and pest management plans are some additional examples of conservation. Church Lake Farm provides an excellent example of how conservation can be successfully implemented using modern technology and farming practices. They are excellent stewards of the land and model conservationists.
